One year ago Empty-Grave Publishing released its first book–The Branch Will Not Break: Empty-Grave Extended Edition by James Wright. Next month we are going to be releasing our 18th book.
New releases will be coming out less frequently this year since I’ll be focusing more on original content creation–blog posts, reviews, fiction, and Asper and the Unheard Heroes in Oz. I’ll still be working on other publishing projects, just not as many. There will probably be eight to ten more Empty-Grave publications this year. I’m toying with a “definitive” hardcover Brother Juniper collection. The three Oz shorts/novellas I created with Ardian Hoda will be coming out in a standalone compilation in late May. I have another couple Jessup books planned and additional republications by various authors.
I am also considering working with more original content. If you have a writing project you are committed to and want to see in print I would be open to hearing your pitch. I am also looking for contributors of all types of content for inclusion on this website. Writers/artists making multiple contributions can be set up with their own accounts for ongoing contributions.
Here’s to another year as good as the last!

Hey, Adam:
I just received your edition of George Lichty’s Grin and Bear It. I thought the book was going to be a compilation of strips only seen in the newspapers, but, instead, it was a reprint of the 1956 book. I was chagrinned for about 15 seconds, but accepted it as a tighter copy of my precious hardcover 1956 edition. And I won’t have any worries about photocopying the Senator Snort strips as reference for a planned sculpture of that august statesman.
There was also a Scholastic Book Services volume of Grin and Bear It which was published in 1968, if you want to add that to the George Lichty bibliography.
Thank you for bringing Grin and Bear It into the 21st century.
Cheers,
Matt
Hi Matt,
Thanks for posting! My hardcover source material had pretty much turned into a smelly folder with a bunch of loose papers in it. I’m glad you appreciate the republication. Working with rarer, more obscure material is very fulfilling for me but since it is so obscure to begin with there aren’t many people letting me know what they think about the books.
Thank you very much for taking the time to post and for the bibliography information. I’ll keep that on the change list if I release an updated edition, which is a possibility now that you mentioned the newspaper-only strips. I may see if I can track a bunch down and put the book out as an Extended Edition instead.
It sounds like you already have an original copy you could scan but if you need any 300dpi images from the book just let me know. I do minor touch-ups on the panels to remove any paper textures or blemishes that show up. When you do the sculpture feel free to shoot me over a photo (preferably 300dpi) and some bio info for yourself and I’ll include it at the back of an Extended Edition if I do wind up releasing one.
Thanks again!
Adam
